Sapadere

Sapadere, or Sapadere Canyon (Sapadere Kanyonu), is a natural canyon and popular tourist site in southern Turkey. It is located in Antalya Province, within the district of Alanya, near the village of Sapadere. The canyon was carved by the Sapadere Creek through limestone formations, producing imposing walls and a scenic gorge with clear, emerald waters.

A maintained wooden walkway runs through parts of the canyon, allowing visitors to walk along the river, view waterfalls and cascades, and pause at observation points along the route. The pathway is designed to provide access while preserving the natural environment, and the site operates with a simple entrance system that supports maintenance and conservation efforts. The area is known for its tranquil scenery, forested surroundings, and opportunities for a short, family-friendly excursion.

Access and facilities: Sapadere Canyon is a common day-trip destination from Alanya, Side, and other coastal towns. Visitors typically travel by road to the canyon entrance, where there are information boards, basic restrooms, and a small selection of refreshment stalls or tea gardens. Appropriate footwear and a moderate level of fitness improve the experience, especially on the longer sections of the trail.

Seasonal considerations: The canyon is accessible year-round, with the experience influenced by weather conditions. Spring and autumn are generally pleasant, while summer visits are popular but can be hot; rain events may affect trail conditions.

Conservation: The site is managed to balance tourism and environmental protection, with visitors encouraged to stay on marked paths and to minimize waste.
