STATUSRUNs

STATUSRUNs are records that capture the execution of a status evaluation within software systems. They are typically produced by monitoring tools, CI/CD pipelines, or health-check services to summarize the outcome of a set of checks at a given time. A STATUSRUN provides a single, auditable snapshot of overall health or readiness, enabling operators to assess posture, trigger alerts, or drive automated remediation.

A STATUSRUN usually includes a unique identifier, timestamps (started_at and finished_at), an overall status (such as pending, success, failure, error, or warning), a short summary, and a collection of individual check results. Each check entry records its name, outcome, duration, and any message, log reference, or artifact attached. Additional metadata may include environment, project, deployment tag, and the source or provider that performed the checks.

Status runs are created when a run starts, updated as checks complete, and finalized when a final state is determined. They may be linked to a specific project, environment, or deployment, and stored in a status history or audit log for future reference. STATUSRUNs are often surfaced through dashboards, incident tools, or release gates to support monitoring, governance, and post-mortem analysis.

Benefits include improved traceability, automation of response actions, and better governance of release processes. Variants can include scheduled health runs, on-demand verification runs, and release-verification runs. Challenges include standardizing status taxonomy across systems, handling high volumes of checks, ensuring timely updates, and managing data retention and privacy.
