SMASløft

SMASløft is a Danish term referring to a surgical procedure aimed at tightening and lifting the skin and underlying tissues of the face and neck. The name is derived from "SMAS," which stands for Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System. This is a thin layer of muscle and connective tissue that lies beneath the skin of the face and neck. In a SMAS lift, the surgeon works with this layer to achieve a more youthful appearance by addressing sagging skin, jowls, and neck laxity.

The procedure typically involves making incisions in the hairline, around the ears, and sometimes under the chin, depending on the extent of the lift. The skin is then carefully separated from the SMAS layer. The SMAS layer itself is then tightened and repositioned, effectively lifting the deeper tissues of the face. Excess skin is then trimmed, and the incisions are closed.

SMAS lifts are designed to provide a more significant and longer-lasting result than superficial facelifts that only address the skin. By lifting the deeper structural layers, the procedure can improve the contour of the jawline, reduce nasolabial folds, and create a smoother appearance of the neck. Recovery time can vary, but typically involves swelling, bruising, and some discomfort. The final results are usually apparent after several weeks or months as the swelling subsides and tissues heal. This type of surgery is generally performed by plastic surgeons or facial plastic surgeons.
