SGPCs

SGPC stands for the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee. It is a religious, social, and Sikh devotional organization that is responsible for the management of the Gurdwaras, the Sikh places of worship, in the Punjab region of India. The SGPC also plays a significant role in preserving Sikh history, culture, and traditions. It was established in 1920 and is headquartered in Amritsar, Punjab.

The SGPC's primary mandate is the administration and upkeep of the most significant Sikh shrines, including the Golden Temple in Amritsar and other historical Gurdwaras. Beyond managing these sacred sites, the organization also oversees Sikh educational institutions, hospitals, and charitable organizations. It is involved in promoting Sikhism through various outreach programs and publications.

The SGPC is a democratically elected body, with its members chosen by Sikhs from Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana. These elected members then choose the executive committee, which includes the President, Senior Vice President, Junior Vice President, General Secretary, and other office bearers. The organization has a considerable influence on Sikh religious and political matters in India. Its decisions and actions are often closely watched by the Sikh diaspora worldwide.
