SEPArahaliikenteen, often shortened to SEPA or SEPA transfer, refers to the Single Euro Payments Area for retail payments. It is a project initiated by the European Union with the aim of simplifying and standardizing the way electronic, non-cash payments are made within Europe. The primary goal of SEPA is to create a single market for euro-denominated payments, allowing individuals, companies, and public administrations to transfer and receive funds electronically within the SEPA zone under the same basic conditions, rights, and obligations.

The SEPA zone includes all European Union member states, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, and Monaco. This harmonization means that a customer in one SEPA country can make payments to and receive payments from another SEPA country with the same ease and cost as a domestic payment. This applies to various payment instruments, including credit transfers, direct debits, and card payments.

The introduction of SEPA has led to the phasing out of national payment systems and the adoption of common technical standards and legal frameworks. This has significantly reduced transaction costs, improved efficiency, and fostered greater competition in the European payments market. It has also facilitated cross-border trade and economic integration within the SEPA region. The ongoing development of SEPA aims to further enhance the speed, security, and convenience of electronic payments for all users.
