SCIA

SCIA is a software company best known for its structural analysis and design tool, SCIA Engineer. The software is used by civil and structural engineers to model buildings and other structures, perform finite element analyses, and verify performance against design codes. It supports linear and nonlinear static analysis, dynamic analysis, buckling, and design optimization for steel, concrete, timber, and composite members. SCIA was established in Europe as an independent provider of structural analysis software. In 2013, it was acquired by the Nemetschek Group, a German-based company focused on BIM and CAD software. Since the acquisition, SCIA Engineer has remained a branded product within Nemetschek’s portfolio and is marketed as part of an integrated workflow that spans design, analysis, and documentation.

SCIA Engineer emphasizes interoperability with industry formats to support collaboration across disciplines. It provides data exchange through standards such as IFC and other CAD/BIM formats, enabling engineers, architects, and contractors to share models and results efficiently. The software is used on a range of projects, including buildings, bridges, and other structures, from small facilities to large-scale infrastructure, within professional engineering firms and consulting practices.
