Sårbarhetsstyring

Sårbarhetsstyring, or vulnerability management, is a cyclical process used in cybersecurity to identify, classify, prioritize, and remediate security vulnerabilities within an organization's IT systems and infrastructure. The primary goal is to reduce the attack surface and minimize the risk of exploitation by malicious actors.

The process typically begins with vulnerability scanning, where automated tools are used to detect known weaknesses in software, hardware, and network configurations. These identified vulnerabilities are then analyzed and assessed for their severity and potential impact. Factors such as the ease of exploitation, the presence of known exploits, and the sensitivity of the affected assets are considered during this phase.

Following assessment, vulnerabilities are prioritized based on their risk level. Critical and high-risk vulnerabilities that could lead to significant data breaches or system compromise are addressed first. Remediation then involves applying patches, updating software, reconfiguring systems, or implementing compensating controls to mitigate the identified risks.

After remediation, a re-scan is often performed to verify that the vulnerabilities have been successfully addressed. The entire cycle is continuous, with regular scans and assessments ensuring that new vulnerabilities are identified and managed as they emerge, and that existing ones remain under control. Effective sårbarhetsstyring requires a combination of technology, processes, and skilled personnel to maintain a strong security posture.
