Ruraltocity is a planning concept that envisions the development of settlements and corridors that integrate rural and urban characteristics. The term is a portmanteau of rural and city and is used in planning literature to describe intentionally designed spaces rather than spontaneous growth.

Key features include compact, walkable layouts; mixed land use; reliable high-speed internet; multimodal transport options such as bus, rail, and cycling networks; locally generated energy and water systems; and governance arrangements that allow for flexible zoning and cross-boundary cooperation among municipalities, regions, and service providers.

Implementation often involves anchor institutions such as hospitals, schools, or research centers; support for local businesses and agriculture value chains; and digital platforms to connect residents with remote work opportunities. Financing may combine public investment with private partnerships and mechanisms to capture land value uplift to fund ongoing maintenance and services.

Benefits include improved access to services, reduced travel demand, diversification of rural economies, and resilience to climate change.
