Rootmicrobesoil is a term used to describe the complex and dynamic microbial community associated with plant roots and the surrounding soil, encompassing the rhizosphere and the root interior (endosphere). It includes bacteria, fungi, archaea, and other microeukaryotes, with bacteria and fungi typically making up the largest portion of activity and biomass. The composition of this community is shaped by plant root exudates, soil type, moisture, pH, and management practices, creating a distinct ecological zone around each root system.

The rootmicrobesoil plays key roles in nutrient cycling and acquisition, including nitrogen fixation by diazotrophic bacteria, phosphate solubilization by certain bacterial and fungal groups, and mineral weathering that liberates nutrients. Many members promote plant growth directly through production of phytohormones, modulation of plant hormone signaling, or by providing enzymes that reduce stress, such as ACC deaminase. Others contribute indirectly by suppressing soil-borne pathogens, competing for resources, or triggering plant defense responses through induced systemic resistance.

Structure and dynamics of the rhizobiome reflect continuous interactions among plants, microbes, and the soil environment. Plants influence community assembly via root exudates, while microbes alter root health and nutrient availability. Environmental factors and agricultural practices, including crop rotation, tillage, fertilization, and organic amendments, further shape the composition and function of the rootmicrobesoil.

Methods to study this system include culture-independent approaches such as 16S rRNA gene sequencing, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and metabolomics, as well as culture-based investigations and inoculation trials. Applications aim to enhance sustainable agriculture through biofertilizers, biocontrol agents, and soil health indicators, though results can be context-dependent and require careful evaluation for field performance and safety.
