RobotStudio

RobotStudio is a software platform developed by ABB Robotics for offline programming, simulation, and commissioning of ABB industrial robot systems. It provides a digital twin of a robot cell, allowing engineers to program, test, and optimize robot tasks without connecting to a physical robot.

Key features include a 3D simulation environment, accurate robot kinematics, collision detection, and the ability to perform offline programming of RAPID code. Users can model robots, tooling, end‑effectors, conveyors, and fixtures; define work objects, payloads, and safety zones; and simulate multi‑robot coordination. The software supports lead‑through programming, I/O and PLC integration, and integration with ABB's RobotWare platform.

Workflow: build a virtual cell by importing CAD data or creating geometry, configure robots and tools, and set up cycles and tasks. Create and edit programs in RAPID, test the motion in the simulator, and verify timing, reachability, and collisions. When ready, export the generated code to the real robot controller or deploy a program to the robot via a connected network.

RobotStudio is widely used to shorten commissioning times, reduce downtime, and enable offline debugging during the development of automated cells in automotive, electronics, and other manufacturing sectors. It is part of ABB's broader digital manufacturing and automation ecosystem.
