RoCEVLANs

RoCEVLANs, also known as RoCE Virtual LANs, are network segmentation constructs used in data center and high-performance computing environments to facilitate the efficient and secure transmission of RDMA over Ethernet (RoCE) traffic. They combine the principles of Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) with RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) protocols to improve network isolation, traffic management, and security.

In RoCE deployments, VLAN tagging is employed to segment different traffic flows, ensuring that RDMA communications are isolated from other types of network traffic. Each RoCEVLAN is assigned a specific VLAN ID, which helps in managing and prioritizing the data, preventing congestion and interference from other network activities. This segmentation supports Quality of Service (QoS) policies, ensuring low-latency and high-throughput communication typical of RDMA applications.
