Requisities

Requisities is a term used in some technical and managerial contexts to refer to the essential prerequisites or conditions required for a plan, project, product, or system to be feasible. The term functions as a plural of requisite and is often used to emphasize multiple enabling conditions rather than the outcome goals themselves. Because "requisities" is not standardized in formal dictionaries, its meaning can vary by field, but the common thread is that requisities describe what must be in place before an initiative can proceed.

Requisities are typically distinguished from objectives and constraints. They are enabling factors rather than targets, applying across functional, non-functional, regulatory, and contextual dimensions. A typical taxonomy covers functional requisities (capabilities the product must provide), non-functional requisities (quality attributes such as performance, security, and reliability), regulatory requisities (laws, standards, licenses), and operational requisities (resources, processes, organizational readiness). Within these, some requisities are mandatory (must-have) while others are desirable (nice-to-have) but strongly influence feasibility and priority.

Identification and management of requisities involve elicitation from stakeholders, analysis of dependencies, risk assessment, and traceability to goals and use cases. They are commonly documented in requirements specifications, feasibility studies, or project charters, and validated through reviews and testing. Failure to satisfy requisities can block progress, increase cost, or lead to non-compliance, even if primary objectives appear achievable.

Examples include: in software development, compatible platforms, licensing, and security compliance; in construction, permits and zoning; in education, prerequisite knowledge and access to materials.
