Repertoaren

Repertoaren is the definite form of the Swedish term repertoar, referring to the body of works that a musician, ensemble, theater company, or orchestra is prepared to perform at a given time. It constitutes the repertoire for a season, a program, or a particular artist, and can include compositions across genres and periods, as well as choreographic works, film screenings, or staged dramas in artistic contexts. The concept encompasses not only individual works but also the available performances, arrangements, and versions of those works.

In practice, repertoaren is curated by artistic directors, conductors, choreographers, and educators in interaction with artists, producers, and rights holders. It evolves through new commissions, revivals of classic titles, and the phasing out of pieces. The term is widely used in Sweden and other Nordic countries, but the idea is global; the word repertoar derives from the French repertoire via Italian and other languages, with the definite form ending -en.

As a planning and archival tool, repertoaren helps organizations schedule presentations, manage licensing, track performance rights, and communicate program content to audiences.
