Reparationskultur is a term used in German-speaking public discourse to describe the set of practices, debates, and institutions by which a society confronts historical injustices and seeks redress. The word combines reparations (restitution, compensation, or restitution of rights) with culture, signaling that memory, accountability, and restorative actions are treated as ongoing social work rather than isolated events.

In discussions, reparationskultur encompasses a range of activities, including formal apologies, financial payments, restitution of property or art, truth-telling projects, and educational or commemorative programs. It also involves institutional reform and legal processes that acknowledge harm and seek to prevent its repetition. The concept is often invoked in the context of Nazi crimes and colonial violence, as well as in debates over restitution to communities or nations affected by past wrongdoing.

Supporters argue that a robust reparationskultur is necessary for justice, reconciliation, and democratic legitimacy, helping to recognize victims and address enduring inequalities. Critics contend that the term can be vague or instrumentalized, raising questions about who is eligible for reparations, how much is owed, and which history counts as deserving of redress.
