Renegotia

Renegotia is a genus of insects belonging to the family Scoliidae. These wasps are commonly known as scoliid wasps or digger wasps. They are large, robust insects, typically characterized by their dark coloration, often with yellow or reddish markings. Both males and females possess stings, but only the females are capable of using them. Scoliid wasps are solitary, meaning each female builds and provisions her own nest.

The life cycle of Renegotia wasps involves parasitism of beetle larvae. The female wasp locates the burrow of a scarab beetle larva, typically found in sandy or loamy soil. She then paralyzes the larva with her sting and lays a single egg on it. Once the egg hatches, the wasp larva feeds on the paralyzed beetle larva until it is fully grown. It then pupates and eventually emerges as an adult wasp.

Renegotia species are found in various regions, with their distribution often tied to the habitats of their host beetle larvae. They play a role in natural pest control by preying on scarab beetle larvae, which can sometimes be agricultural pests.
