Remotepilots

Remotepilots are individuals who operate aircraft remotely, meaning they are not physically on board the aircraft during flight. This practice, often referred to as remote piloting, is becoming increasingly prevalent with the advancement of unmanned aerial systems (UAS), commonly known as drones. Remotepilots are responsible for the safe and legal operation of these aircraft, which can range from small hobbyist drones to large military or commercial vehicles.

The role of a remotepilot typically involves pre-flight checks, flight planning, monitoring aircraft systems, and making decisions during flight. They must understand airspace regulations, weather conditions, and the capabilities and limitations of the UAS they are operating. Training and certification are often required for remotepilots, particularly for commercial or professional operations, to ensure a high standard of safety and competence.

Remotepilots are employed in a wide variety of fields. These include aerial photography and videography, infrastructure inspection (such as bridges, power lines, and wind turbines), agriculture (crop monitoring and spraying), law enforcement and public safety, search and rescue operations, and military applications. The technology allows for operations in hazardous environments or areas that would be inaccessible or dangerous for human pilots.
