Rehüdratsioonilahus is a solution used to treat or prevent dehydration. Dehydration occurs when the body loses more fluid than it takes in, leading to a deficiency of water and essential electrolytes. Rehüdratsioonilahus is typically composed of water, salts (electrolytes such as sodium and potassium), and sugars (carbohydrates). These components are carefully balanced to facilitate the reabsorption of water and electrolytes by the intestines.

The primary use of rehüdratsioonilahus is in the management of diarrhea and vomiting, common causes of dehydration, especially in children. It helps to replenish the lost fluids and minerals, thereby restoring the body's fluid balance. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends oral rehydration solutions (ORS) as the first-line treatment for dehydration caused by diarrheal diseases. These solutions are often available commercially or can be prepared at home with specific ingredient ratios.

The presence of glucose and sodium together enhances the absorption of water and sodium from the intestinal lumen, a process known as co-transport.
