Redcaps

Redcaps are malevolent supernatural creatures originating in folklore, primarily associated with the border regions between England and Scotland. They are often depicted as grotesque, dwarf-like beings with long, scraggly beards and sharp talons. Their most distinctive feature is the red cap they wear, which is said to be stained with the blood of the victims they murder.

These malevolent entities are known for inhabiting ruined castles, abandoned cottages, and lonely stretches of countryside. They are particularly drawn to places where violence or bloodshed has occurred. Their primary motivation is to kill any travelers or intruders they encounter. Redcaps are believed to be incredibly strong and vicious, often using heavy weapons such as iron bars or spades to bludgeon their victims to death.

The legend of the redcap serves as a cautionary tale, warning people to be wary of isolated and potentially dangerous locations. Folklore suggests that a redcap's power is tied to its cap; if it can be removed, the creature will die. However, attempting to do so is extremely perilous, given their aggressive nature. Some tales also mention that redcaps can be appeased or driven away by reciting religious verses or by displaying a cross.
