RedGreenStörungen, also known as red-green color blindness, is the most common type of inherited color vision deficiency. It affects an individual's ability to distinguish between shades of red and green. This condition is typically caused by a genetic mutation on the X chromosome, meaning it is far more prevalent in males than in females. The retina of the eye contains photoreceptor cells called cones, which are responsible for color vision. In individuals with red-green color blindness, there is a defect in either the red or green cone photopigments, or a complete absence of one type.
