Reaktionssvalt is a Swedish term that translates to "reaction cold" or "reaction chill." It describes a physiological response that can occur in certain individuals following a strong emotional or psychological shock. This shock can be triggered by various events, such as a sudden fright, experiencing trauma, or receiving devastating news.

The phenomenon is characterized by a sudden drop in body temperature, often accompanied by feelings of coldness, shivering, and paleness. Some individuals may also experience nausea, dizziness, or a sense of detachment. Unlike a typical cold illness, reaktionssvalt is not caused by a pathogen but rather by the body's autonomic nervous system's reaction to extreme stress.
