R-curve, short for resistance curve, is a concept in fracture mechanics describing how a material’s resistance to crack growth changes as a crack extends. It is commonly represented as a plot of a fracture-resistance measure, such as the stress intensity factor K, the energy release rate G, or the J-integral, against crack extension (Delta a). The curve captures how the material becomes more (or less) resistant to advancing a crack as damage accumulates near the crack tip.
