Rasitusastmaa

Rasitusastmaa is a rare chronic respiratory disease that affects individuals with cystic fibrosis. The condition is characterized by the accumulation of thick, sticky mucus in the airways, which leads to increased resistance to breathing and nutritional malabsorption. Rasitusastmaa is a result of excessive mucus production and its inability to clear properly, causing ongoing airway irritation and inflammation.

In people with cystic fibrosis, the cells produce thick, sticky mucus due to the mutation in the CFTR gene. The lack of water and salts in the mucus causes it to be dehydrated, leading to blockages in the airways and increased resistance to breathing.
