Rahmenraum
Rahmenraum is a German term that translates roughly as "framework area" or "surrounding region." It is most commonly used in the context of the European Union’s foreign policy to describe the group of countries that are geographically adjacent to the EU or otherwise closely linked to it. The concept was formally adopted in the early 1990s to define the set of states that the EU should engage with through dialogue, cooperation, and, in some cases, integration arrangements. The framework includes countries in the European Neighborhood Policy, the Eastern Partnership, the Mediterranean Dialogue, and the EU‑CIS partnership, among others. The term emphasises that the EU’s outreach is directed toward those states that share a particular level of proximity, both physical and political, which enables more effective policymaking.
