Radialwellendichtung

Radialwellendichtung, often referred to as a rotary shaft seal or oil seal, is a mechanical seal designed to prevent leakage of fluids from a rotating shaft. It typically consists of a flexible sealing lip that is pressed against the rotating shaft by a garter spring. The main purpose is to contain lubricants within a machine and prevent contaminants from entering.

These seals are commonly found in engines, transmissions, gearboxes, pumps, and various rotating machinery. The sealing lip material is crucial, with common choices including NBR (nitrile rubber) for general oil and fuel resistance, FKM (fluoroelastomer) for high temperatures and aggressive fluids, and PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) for very demanding applications. The outer casing is usually made of metal and is designed to be pressed into a housing.

The proper functioning of a radialwellendichtung depends on several factors. These include the surface finish and hardness of the shaft, the shaft's rotational speed, the operating temperature, and the pressure of the fluid being sealed. Wear on the shaft or the seal itself can lead to leakage. Regular inspection and replacement are important maintenance procedures to ensure the longevity and efficiency of the machinery.
