Raadiokiirgust

Raadiokiirgust, often referred to as radio waves, represents a form of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths longer than infrared light. These waves are part of the electromagnetic spectrum, which also includes visible light, X-rays, and gamma rays. Raadiokiirgust is produced by accelerating electric charges, and conversely, it can induce electric currents in conductors.

The discovery and understanding of raadiokiirgust are attributed to several pioneering scientists. James Clerk Maxwell theoretically predicted the existence of electromagnetic waves in the 1860s, and Heinrich Hertz experimentally confirmed their existence in the late 1880s. Guglielmo Marconi is widely credited with the practical development of radio transmission and reception, leading to the invention of the radio telegraph.

Lower frequencies are used for long-distance communication, while higher frequencies are employed in radio astronomy, radar, and microwave ovens. Applications include broadcasting radio and television signals, mobile phone communication, Wi-Fi, and satellite communications. While generally considered harmless, extremely high-intensity radio waves can cause heating of biological tissues.
