RTKPPP

RTKPPP refers to a real-time GNSS positioning approach that combines Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) methods with Precise Point Positioning (PPP) corrections, typically implemented within the RTKLIB software framework. It enables computing precise positions in real time by streaming satellite orbit and clock corrections to a rover receiver that also processes real-time observation data.

In practice, RTKPPP uses real-time correction feeds—such as precise ephemerides and clock data for GNSS satellites, and sometimes ionospheric or tropospheric models—to improve PPP solutions with RTK-like speed and reliability. This approach allows users to achieve centimeter-to-decimeter level accuracy over moderate baselines without requiring a dense ground network of reference stations, by applying high-quality satellite corrections in real time.

Implementation in RTKLIB and similar toolchains typically involves a client-server configuration. A reference station or network station provides correction streams (via protocols such as RTCM or NTRIP), while the rover station transmits raw GNSS observations and receives corrections to compute the precise solution. The system supports multiple GNSS constellations and can be configured to operate with various processing options, including precise orbit and clock products.

Applications include surveying, geodesy, agriculture, autonomous navigation, and any scenario where real-time, high-accuracy positioning is desirable without traditional RTK baselines. Drawbacks can include dependence on continuous, high-quality real-time corrections, potential convergence delays under challenging ionospheric conditions, and the need for compatible hardware and software setups.
