Quarkonen

Quarkonen is a fictional elementary particle used in some speculative discussions of quantum chromodynamics and in science fiction to explore ideas about the strong interaction beyond the Standard Model. It is not part of the established particle zoo, and there is no experimental evidence for its existence.

In commonly depicted variants, quarkonens are envisioned as color-charged constituents that form color-neutral composites through a binding interaction analogous to, but distinct from, ordinary quarks and gluons. Authors vary their properties, sometimes attributing them fractional charges, unusual spin, or different mass scales. Theoretical discussions often frame quarkonens as a means to illustrate confinement and hadron formation in alternative strong-force scenarios.

Usage and significance: In thought experiments, quarkonens help clarify how new gauge interactions might behave, how confinement might arise in non-Standard Model settings, or how hadronic spectra could differ if additional colors or flavors were present. In science fiction, they appear as exotic matter or novel quarks, enabling plots about hidden sectors or early-universe physics.
