Püstivõitlusest

Püstivõitlusest is an Estonian term that translates to "standing combat" or "striking combat." It refers to a category of martial arts and combat sports that primarily involve fighting while standing up, as opposed to ground fighting. The focus is on techniques such as punches, kicks, knees, and elbows.

Many martial arts traditions incorporate elements of püstivõitlus. For instance, boxing is a quintessential example, concentrating solely on punches. Kickboxing, on the other hand, expands this to include kicks as well. Muay Thai, often called the "Art of Eight Limbs," utilizes punches, kicks, knees, and elbow strikes, along with clinch fighting. Karate and Taekwondo are also prominent martial arts that heavily feature striking techniques.

The objective in püstivõitlus is typically to incapacitate or score points against an opponent through effective striking. Training often involves developing power, speed, accuracy, timing, and defensive skills like blocking and evasion. Competitions in these disciplines are governed by specific rulesets that dictate allowed techniques, scoring methods, and safety precautions. The term püstivõitlus serves as a broad umbrella for these upright combat disciplines.
