Pöördandurid

Pöördandurid, also known as rotary encoders, are electromechanical devices used to convert the angular position or motion of a shaft into an electrical signal. They are commonly employed in applications where precise measurement of rotation is required. These sensors can determine the speed, direction, and position of a rotating element.

There are two primary types of rotary encoders: absolute and incremental. Absolute encoders provide a unique digital output for each distinct shaft position, meaning the position is known immediately upon power-up without the need for a reference point. Incremental encoders, on the other hand, generate pulses as the shaft rotates. These pulses indicate changes in position, and a separate reference pulse is often used to establish a starting point.

The output signals from rotary encoders can be in various formats, including quadrature outputs, which allow for the determination of direction, and serial protocols for transmitting position data. They find widespread use in industrial automation, robotics, motor control, and human-machine interfaces, such as volume knobs on audio equipment and scroll wheels on computer mice. Their ability to provide accurate rotational feedback makes them essential components in many automated systems.
