Põieärrituse, also known as bladder irritation, is a common condition characterized by a frequent and urgent need to urinate. It can manifest with a variety of symptoms, including pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen, a burning sensation during urination, and difficulty in completely emptying the bladder. These symptoms can significantly impact a person's quality of life, leading to disrupted sleep patterns and social limitations due to the constant need for the restroom.

Several factors can contribute to the development of põieärritus. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a frequent cause, where bacteria infect the bladder. Other causes include interstitial cystitis, a chronic bladder condition with no clear cause, and overactive bladder syndrome, where the bladder muscles contract involuntarily. Lifestyle factors such as excessive consumption of caffeine, alcohol, or spicy foods can also exacerbate symptoms. Certain medical conditions like diabetes, neurological disorders, or pelvic inflammatory disease can also play a role.

Diagnosing põieärritus typically involves a review of the patient's medical history, a physical examination, and urine tests to check for infection. In some cases, further investigations like bladder imaging or cystoscopy may be necessary to rule out other underlying issues. Treatment approaches vary depending on the cause but often include lifestyle modifications, such as dietary changes and fluid management. Medications to relax the bladder muscles or manage pain may also be prescribed. For persistent or severe cases, physical therapy or more advanced medical interventions might be considered.
