Példam

Példam is a term that appears in some Hungarian-language educational materials as a label for exemplars or example-driven content. It is not a standard lexical item in Hungarian; rather, it is a coinage used to denote a prototypical example, often within a lesson, workbook, or dataset. Because of its informal status, attestation of the form varies and usage tends to be pedagogical or template-based rather than linguistic.

Etymology and orthography are loosely conventional. The root is példa, meaning “example,” with a suffix-like addition that serves to create a stable label rather than a fully integrated word. In print, the form may appear as példam or as példám depending on typographic conventions and whether diacritics are retained or omitted. The distinction is largely orthographic and contextual rather than grammatical.

Usage and function. In teaching materials, példam items function as short, illustrative snippets designed to demonstrate a grammar point, vocabulary item, or usage pattern. They may be sentences, dialogues, or mini-tasks accompanied by explanations, glosses, or translations. In digital resources or templates, példam labels can serve as placeholders or categorical markers for collections of exemplars.

Reception and alternatives. The term has limited formal recognition; many editors and educators prefer standard terms such as példa (example) or példamondat (example sentence) to avoid ambiguity. When encountered, példam typically signals an instructional or demonstrative purpose rather than a lexical category.
