Päälogiikka

Päälogiikka is a Finnish term that translates literally to "main logic" or "primary logic." In philosophical and linguistic contexts it refers to the fundamental reasoning processes that underlie human cognition and discourse. The word is often employed in discussions of logic curricula, where core logical principles such as deductive reasoning, inference rules, and logical connectives are presented before more advanced topics like modal or non‑classical logics.

Historically, the study of päälogiikka in Finland developed alongside the broader European tradition of formal logic in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Finnish scholars translated German and English works on classical propositional and predicate logic, thereby institutionalising the concept within Finnish academic curricula.
