Päikeseajast, also known as the solar eclipse, is a natural phenomenon that occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, thereby obscuring the Sun's light and casting a shadow on Earth. This alignment can result in a partial or total eclipse, depending on the observer's location.

There are three types of solar eclipses: total, partial, and annular. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon completely covers the Sun's disk, revealing the Sun's corona. This is the most dramatic type of solar eclipse. A partial solar eclipse happens when only a part of the Sun is obscured by the Moon. An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon is too far from Earth to completely cover the Sun, resulting in a "ring of fire" effect around the Moon.

Solar eclipses are relatively rare events that occur at specific times and locations. They can only be observed from within the path of totality, a narrow strip on Earth's surface where the total eclipse is visible. Outside this path, observers will see a partial eclipse.
