Putkitusmenetelmät, or pipe lining methods, refer to various techniques used to repair or renew existing pipelines without the need for extensive excavation. These methods are commonly employed in infrastructure maintenance, particularly for water, sewage, and gas lines, as well as industrial piping. The primary goal of pipe lining is to restore the structural integrity and functionality of a damaged pipe by creating a new inner pipe surface.

One prevalent method is CIPP, or Cured-in-Place Pipe. In this process, a resin-saturated flexible liner is inserted into the damaged pipe. Once in place, the liner is expanded, typically using air or water pressure, and then cured, often with heat or steam. This creates a seamless, structural pipe within the old one. Another technique is spray lining, where a resin is sprayed onto the interior surface of the existing pipe. This can be a fast method for smaller diameter pipes or for spot repairs. Swagelining is a method where a liner is pulled into the existing pipe and then expanded by drawing it through a smaller diameter die. This cold expansion creates a tight fit against the old pipe wall.

Pipe bursting is a trenchless method that replaces an old pipe by fracturing it outwards and simultaneously pulling in a new pipe. While it involves some excavation for insertion and pulling points, it significantly reduces the overall digging compared to traditional replacement. These methods offer advantages like reduced disruption to traffic and the surrounding environment, cost savings, and faster project completion times.
