Pulykatojások

Pulykatojások, or turkey eggs, are the reproductive cells laid by female turkeys. They are larger than chicken eggs and typically have a thicker shell, often with a speckled appearance ranging from light brown to dark brown. The size of a turkey egg can vary, but they are generally about 3 to 3.5 inches long and 1.5 to 2 inches wide.

In terms of composition, turkey eggs are similar to other poultry eggs, containing a yolk and albumen (egg white). The yolk is typically a richer yellow-orange color due to higher concentrations of carotenoids. Nutritionally, they are a good source of protein, vitamins such as B12 and D, and minerals like iron and selenium.

While not as commonly consumed by humans as chicken eggs, turkey eggs can be eaten. Their larger size means they offer more volume and a richer flavor profile, often described as more intense than chicken eggs. Due to their rarity and the lower laying frequency of turkeys compared to chickens, turkey eggs are less commercially available and are typically more expensive when found.

In agricultural settings, turkey eggs are primarily used for incubation to hatch turkey poults, which are then raised for meat or breeding purposes. The incubation period for turkey eggs is approximately 28 days. The fertility and hatchability rates can be influenced by various factors, including the health of the parent birds and environmental conditions.
