Pulseret

Pulseret is a term used to describe the frequency of the arterial pulse, commonly known as heart rate. It is measured as the number of heartbeats per minute and serves as a quick indicator of cardiovascular function. Resting pulseret is typically lower than during exertion.

Measurement is done by palpating a peripheral pulse (radial or carotid) and counting beats for 15 to 30 seconds, or with devices such as chest straps, wrist monitors, or electrocardiography. ECG provides precise timing and can also yield heart rate variability data.

Normal ranges: In healthy adults at rest, pulseret usually falls between 60 and 100 beats per minute. Athletes often have lower resting rates. Children have higher resting pulseret, which declines with age.

Variability and factors: Pulseret varies with activity, fitness level, emotions, fever, dehydration, medications (for example beta-blockers or stimulants), caffeine intake, and thyroid function. It also shows circadian variation.

Clinical significance: Abnormally high pulseret (tachycardia) or low pulseret (bradycardia) can indicate conditions such as dehydration, anemia, hypoxia, arrhythmias, or endocrine disorders. However, heart rate alone is not diagnostic and should be interpreted with symptoms and other tests.

Use in health monitoring: Resting pulseret trends are used in medical and athletic contexts to assess fitness, recovery, illness, and response to treatment.

Terminology note: The term pulseret is sometimes used interchangeably with heart rate or pulse rate in clinical literature, depending on language and context.
