Puitkihtplaadid

Puitkihtplaadid, commonly known as plywood in English, are engineered wood products manufactured from thin layers or 'plies' of wood veneer that are glued together with adjacent layers having their wood grain rotated up to 90 degrees to one another. This cross-graining construction results in a material that is stronger, more stable, and more resistant to warping and shrinking than solid lumber.

The manufacturing process typically involves peeling large logs into thin sheets of veneer. These veneers are then dried, graded, and sorted. The number of plies can vary, but they are always odd in number to ensure symmetry and stability. Adhesive is applied to the veneers, which are then stacked with alternating grain directions. The stacked plies are then pressed together under heat and pressure to form a solid panel.

Puitkihtplaadid are widely used in construction for applications such as subflooring, wall sheathing, and roofing. They are also utilized in furniture manufacturing, cabinetry, and in the creation of various engineered products. Their strength-to-weight ratio and ability to be manufactured in large, consistent sheets make them a versatile and economical building material.
