Puhastusainete, commonly known as cleaning agents or detergents, are substances or products designed to remove dirt, stains, and grime from surfaces. They work by various chemical and physical mechanisms to break down and lift contaminants, making them easier to wash away.

The effectiveness of a cleaning agent depends on its chemical composition. Many cleaning agents contain surfactants, which are molecules that can reduce the surface tension of water. This allows water to spread more easily and penetrate dirt. Puhastusained are used in a wide variety of applications, from household cleaning of dishes, laundry, and floors to industrial cleaning of machinery and large-scale facilities. They are available in various forms, including liquids, powders, gels, and sprays.

When using cleaning agents, it is important to follow product instructions for safety and effectiveness. Some agents can be corrosive or irritating and may require protective measures like gloves. Proper ventilation is also often recommended. Environmental impact is a growing consideration, with many manufacturers developing more eco-friendly formulations that are biodegradable and less harmful to aquatic life.
