Provisioneringsmodeller

Provisioneringsmodeller, or provisioning models, describe the structured approaches used to allocate, activate, manage, and decommission resources and services in information technology and telecommunications. They define how compute power, storage, networks, licenses, and services are requested, approved, and delivered, often within governance, security, and cost-management constraints. Provisioning models are central to cloud computing, data centers, and hybrid environments, enabling automation, standardization, and scalable service delivery while supporting SLAs and budgeting.

Key elements of provisioning models include the resource types involved, the lifecycle stages (request, approval, allocation, activation, usage, and deprovisioning), and the policies that govern access, tagging, security, and cost allocation. Automation and orchestration play a major role, frequently leveraging infrastructure as code and policy-driven controls to ensure consistency and rapid provisioning. The models are closely linked to service delivery frameworks, such as IT service management and cloud service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), and to delivery models (public, private, hybrid cloud).

Common provisioning models include: on-demand or elastic provisioning, which allocates resources dynamically in response to demand; reserved or committed provisioning, which provides capacity for a set period at a lower cost in exchange for upfront commitment; spot or auction-based provisioning, which uses surplus capacity at reduced prices with availability risk; fixed provisioning, which maintains stable baseline capacity; hybrid provisioning, which combines multiple approaches to balance cost and flexibility; and self-service provisioning, which enables users to request resources through automated portals with governance constraints.
