Proteinablagerungen, also known as protein aggregates or amyloid fibrils, are clumps of misfolded proteins that accumulate in tissues. These abnormal protein structures can form in various organs and cell types, disrupting normal cellular function and leading to disease. The process of protein aggregation is often triggered by genetic mutations, cellular stress, or aging. When proteins misfold, they can expose hydrophobic regions that interact with other misfolded proteins, leading to the formation of insoluble aggregates.
