Prohibiere

Prohibiere is a form that appears in discussions of Latin orthography as a nonstandard spelling related to the verb prohibeo, prohibere, prohibui, prohibitus, which means to prohibit or to restrain. In Classical Latin, the standard infinitive is prohibēre (often written prohibēre with a macron to indicate a long vowel). In many modern editions and dictionaries, prohibiere is treated as an orthographic variant rather than a separate lexical form.

The verb prohibeo belongs to the second conjugation. Its principal parts give prohibeo, prohibere, prohibui, prohibitus. The present active indicative forms are prohibeo, prohibes, prohibet, prohibemus, prohibetis, prohibent. The present active infinitive is prohibēre; the corresponding passive infinitive is prohiberi. The perfect passive participle is prohibitus, used with forms of esse to build the passive periphrastic. The imperative in the active voice is prohibe (singular) and prohibete (plural).
