Produkttegninger, or product drawings, are technical drawings that communicate the exact geometry, dimensions, materials, finishes, and assembly relationships of a part or product. They may depict a single component or an assembly of multiple parts, and combine 2D orthographic projections with 3D representations, sections, and exploded views to convey form and function.

Contents typically include: views (front, top, side), sections, a dimensioning scheme with tolerances, a bill of materials, surface finish symbols, material specifications, heat-treatment or coating notes, and assembly or functional notes.

Purpose: to guide manufacture, inspection, and assembly; to ensure interchangeability and quality; to provide a common reference for suppliers and customers.

Standards and conventions: Most drawings follow international or national standards for dimensioning, tolerancing, and notation, such as ISO 128, ISO 1101, or ASME Y14.5. These standards define how features are labeled, how tolerances are applied, and how geometric relationships are controlled.

Process and formats: Drawings are usually produced in computer-aided design (CAD) systems and released as digital files or printed sheets. They are often part of a larger documentation set that includes the bill of materials, assembly drawings, and manufacturing instructions, and they maintain revision histories.

Usage: Used by engineers, manufacturers, suppliers, and QA teams to manufacture, assemble, inspect, and maintain products, from individual parts to complex systems.
