Produktquality

Produktquality, or product quality, is the degree to which a product meets its defined requirements and satisfies users. It covers objective attributes such as performance, reliability, durability, safety and conformance to specifications, as well as subjective aspects like usability, aesthetics and perceived value. Quality is assessed across the product life cycle, from design and development through manufacturing and after-sales support, and it is often influenced by production processes, supplier performance, and service ecosystems.

A commonly cited framework is Garvin's eight dimensions of quality: performance, features, reliability, conformance, durability, serviceability, aesthetics, and perceived quality. Together they help explain why two products with similar function can be evaluated differently by customers.

Measurement and management: Organizations use quality management systems, such as ISO 9001, to plan, control and improve quality. Quality costs are typically categorized as prevention, appraisal, and failure costs. Methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, and Total Quality Management aim to reduce variation, eliminate waste, and raise process capability.

Impact: Higher product quality generally improves customer satisfaction, brand reputation, and market competitiveness, while reducing warranty costs and regulatory risk. Effective quality management requires alignment among design, sourcing, manufacturing, and service, with ongoing feedback loops to address defects and changes in requirements.
