Processtemperaturer refer to the temperatures observed or maintained inside industrial processes. They influence reaction rates, phase behavior, viscosity, solubility, and product quality, as well as energy use and safety. Accurate control of processtemperaturer helps ensure consistent output, reduces byproducts, and minimizes risks such as runaway reactions or equipment damage.

Temperature in process environments is measured with sensors chosen for chemical compatibility, response time, and tolerance. Common devices include thermocouples, RTDs (such as Pt100), and thermistors. Thermocouples are robust and wide-ranging; RTDs offer high accuracy with slower response. Process temperature is regulated by control loops with actuators such as burners, valves, or cooling jackets. Classic control uses PID feedback; more complex plants may employ feedforward, cascade loops, or model predictive control to handle delays and nonlinearities.

Measurements should be traceable to national or international standards, with regular calibration and validation to account for drift, hysteresis, and fouling. Data logging supports monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization.
