Problémameghat is a fictional concept used in interdisciplinary studies and speculative fiction to describe a systemic tipping point at which interdependent problems interact to magnify consequences. The term blends the sense of a practical problem with a coined notion of meghat—a critical juncture—in the imagined framework of systemic risk. It was introduced by the fictional scholar A. K. Rao in a 2023 vignette.

At its core, problémameghat describes how discrete challenges—such as aging infrastructure, climate variability, economic precarity, and governance fragmentation—do not operate in isolation. Through problem coupling, feedback loops, and nonlinear thresholds, these issues can drive a system toward a destabilized state where conventional interventions fail. The model outlines four elements: problem coupling (how multiple issues influence one another), feedback mechanisms (reinforcing or dampening loops), thresholds and tipping points (sudden shifts in behavior), and governance gaps (institutional friction and coordination problems).

Applications are imagined in risk assessment, urban resilience planning, and policy design, where scenario analysis maps possible meghats, tests intervention combinations, and helps prioritize actions that reduce cascading risk. Fictional case studies illustrate how addressing a single problem may be insufficient unless its connections are considered.
