Pressmättnad

Pressmättnad is a term used in materials science and engineering to describe the point at which a porous material can no longer absorb any more liquid. It signifies a state of complete saturation where all available pore spaces within the material are filled with the liquid. This concept is crucial in understanding the behavior of many materials, including soils, sponges, paper, and certain industrial filters.

When a porous material is exposed to a liquid, capillary forces draw the liquid into the pores. As more liquid is absorbed, the pores gradually fill up. Pressmättnad is reached when the volume of absorbed liquid equals the total volume of the pores. Beyond this point, any additional liquid applied to the material will not be retained and will typically flow away or remain on the surface.
