Predispozic

Predispozic is a term used in several Slavic languages to denote a predisposition—a tendency or susceptibility toward a trait or condition that is influenced by genetic, developmental, and environmental factors. In medical and scientific contexts it describes an increased probability of developing a disease, without implying certainty. A predisposition can be inherited or arise from non-genetic influences, and it often interacts with lifestyle and exposures to determine actual outcomes.

Genetic predisposition occurs when certain genetic variants raise the chance of a disease. These variants typically do not cause disease by themselves but raise risk in combination with other factors. Examples include BRCA1 and BRCA2 variants that increase breast and ovarian cancer risk, or polygenic risk scores that summarize the cumulative effect of many variants. Penetrance varies, so not all carriers will develop the condition.

Predispositions also appear in psychology and behavior, where inherited and developmental factors can incline individuals toward particular traits or responses, again without guaranteeing them.

In practice, recognizing predispositions informs risk assessment, targeted screening, and preventive strategies, as well as genetic counseling. It also raises ethical and legal considerations about privacy, discrimination, and the limits of predictive testing.
