Postprivacy is a term used in privacy discourse to describe a sociotechnical condition in which the traditional emphasis on personal privacy is diminished or redefined as data flows become pervasive, ubiquitous, and culturally normalized. It refers not simply to more surveillance, but to shifts in norms, expectations, and practices around information sharing, visibility, and control. In a postprivacy landscape, elements of everyday life—preferences, behaviors, and locations—are increasingly collected, analyzed, and traded, often with little friction for the user.

The concept highlights how data ecosystems, algorithmic profiling, and online platforms encourage or even require greater openness about one’s data. Public and private spheres increasingly overlap, and boundaries between personal and public information can blur through features such as social sharing, smart devices, and data-driven services.
