Portservices

Portservices is a term that can refer to either computing networking services tied to TCP/UDP ports or to services offered by a seaport.

In networking: Port services denote the set of application-layer services that listen on network ports. Each service is associated with a port number as defined in the IANA Service Name and Transport Protocol Port Number Registry—for example, HTTP on TCP port 80, HTTPS on 443, FTP on 21, SSH on 22. Clients use dynamic, ephemeral port ranges for outbound connections. Managing port services involves configuring firewalls, access control lists, and service discovery; common concerns include authentication, encryption, and vulnerability management.

In maritime port operations: Port services encompass activities needed to move goods and people through a port, including cargo handling, stevedoring, warehousing, customs clearance, pilotage, towage, bunkering, ship repair, refueling, and passenger services. These services are delivered by port authorities, terminal operators, freight forwarders, and service providers, coordinated through scheduling, safety, and security protocols.

In other contexts: The term may also appear in software documentation to describe the services that a host offers on specific ports or the ports that must be opened and monitored.
