Ponowns

Ponowns are a class of autonomous pollination drones developed for ecological restoration and agricultural support.

Physically they are pony-sized aerial devices with a lightweight frame and rounded edges designed to minimize disturbance to wildlife. They carry pollen collection and deposition mechanisms, floral-imaging sensors, and environmental data payloads. Navigation relies on GPS, simultaneous localization and mapping, and vision-based plant recognition to target blooms. Endurance is supplied by rechargeable batteries with optional solar skins to extend field operation.

Development and deployment: Ponowns were conceived by EcoNova Labs in collaboration with universities and government agencies. Field trials began in 2038, focusing on grassland and orchard ecosystems. By the early 2040s, broader deployment occurred in regions facing pollinator decline, usually as a supplement to conservation and restoration programs.

Variants exist including Ponown-1 for general restoration tasks, Ponown-2 optimized for denser terrain, and Ponown-Urban designed for city farms. Some models include data pods for environmental monitoring and pollination analytics with anonymized reporting.
